Living @ Newman

One of the challenges of living your faith on campus is that you can feel like you are swimming against the tide – not just at Queen’s in general, but even with those closest to you, your housemates. Living together with other students who are serious about their Catholic faith can make all the difference; you have housemates who lift you up, not drag you down.

So why don’t you consider living in such a community on Frontenac Street, just steps from campus?

For the 2010/2011 school year, Newman House will be creating these Catholic communities in our own “village on Frontenac street”.

For many years, students have been living at Newman House itself, 192 Frontenac. The same opportunity is available at 200 Frontenac and 518 Albert. There are 15 rooms available in these 3 houses.

If you want to live in such a community, please contact Fr. Raymond de Souza (rjdesouza@sympatico.ca). The rooms in these houses are not open to the general public — they arranged only through Newman House.

Here are the basic details — further questions can be answered by Fr. de Souza.

192 Frontenac (Newman House)

We have three rooms availabe in Newman House itself, on the second and third floor. A lively place to live with all the Newman activities, plus the blessing of a chapel in your own home. Laundry facilities in the basement. The rent per room is $465/month on a 12-month lease.

200 Frontenac

A beautiful, long-time family home, this house is in immaculate condition and can accommodate up to 7 students. Laundry facilities are included, a modern, spacious kitchen is available (with dishwasher!), the bathrooms are large and the floors are hardwood. It is doubtful that there is a nicer student house in the ghetto.

Monthly rent at 200 Frontenac will be $515, utilities not included.

518 Albert

The newest of our Newman House homes is a little farther away from campus – at Albert and Princess. It’s a smaller home that can accommodate four people or five people, but it is in excellent condition, with a beautiful kitchen, large common room, hardwood floors and new bathrooms. Rent is $460/month, utilities not included.

Still don’t think you can manage it financially? Contact Fr. de Souza and let him know your situation.
